We offer you a collection of stories by the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov (1860–1904). In the West, Chekhov is principally known through his plays — “The Seagull”, “Uncle Vanya”, “The Cherry Orchard”, “Three Sisters”, and others. But Chekhov is not only a playwright but also the author of a huge number of stories to which we are pleased to introduce the English-speaking readers.
The book presents the stories translated by Constance Garnett, the well-known translator of Russian literature. The text is supplemented by cultural background commentary.
